Eco Active Travel – African Vet Safaris
African Vet Safaris afford clients the opportunity to be involved in wildlife darting and management procedures. Various species such as rhino, leopard, elephant, lion, and many more, need darting for management or conservation reasons such as pregnancy monitoring or contraception, health checks, transmitter implants or collar fitment, are darted by a wildlife Veterinarian in order for the procedure to be carried out. Clients are given the opportunity to participate in the procedure being carried out once the animal is tranquillised and it is safe to move closer. Depending on the species and procedure involved, clients will have the option of a hands-on approach, or, if they prefer, simply observing from up close and getting those pictures of a lifetime! Proceeds from the clients’ fees are paid over to the wildlife reserve/conservation body to cover the costs of the procedure, and in so doing, clients are contributing directly to the conservation and successful management of the wildlife in South Africa.

South Africa’s road infrastructure is excellent, so driving is a viable option, but South Africa is a huge country not easily traversed in a day, so plan your journeys carefully. Several inter-city Bus Services have almost daily schedules between all the main cities making interesting stops along the way. The Baz Bus follows the Eastern coastal route with a Hop-on Hop-off fare, an economic, fun way to see South Africa for the budget traveller. There are conventional metered taxis, but unlike in many other countries these do not cruise the streets in search of passengers and must generally be contacted by telephone.
