Ponta Do Oura
(The Point of Gold), is the southern most resort on the Mozambican Coast. The coastline from Ponta do Ouro to Inhaca Island is saturated with the most beautiful and pristine hard and soft coral reefs, home to a bewildering variety of game and reef fish, turtles dolphins, whales, sharks and rays. Unlike the coral reefs in South Africa, most of these reefs have remained untouched for nearly 2 decades during the civil war. Ponta Mamoli
Far from the maddening crowds, Ponta Mamoli Resort is a secluded holiday destination in southern Mozambique. Zavora
Zavora is a new diving destination about 80 km south of Tofo Beach in Mozambique.
It is very remote, practically undiscovered and has the wreck of the Dutch liner “Klipfontein” in its back yard. There is an abundance of manta rays and a cleaning station at 12m. Humpback whales rest and congregate in large numbers from June until October. There are many different species of sharks, including Tiger shark, Bull shark (or Zambezi shark), dusky shark, oceanic black tip shark, just to name a few. There is a large turtle population, including hawksbill, loggerhead and leather back and enormous shoals of game fish and multiple other marine species.
Tofu
The Tofu marine area is increasingly gaining a reputation as one of the best diving spots in the world. It is highly likely that you will spot whale shark on route to a dive and have the opportunity to snorkel with it. Invariably mantas circle you in numbers every time you go down on scuba off the famous Manta Reef. Also on show are cheeky devil rays, turtles, and large schools of tropical fish, reef shark and the elusive harlequin shrimp
June to September is an ideal time to see migrating Humpback Whales cruising along the coastline and regular Dolphin and Turtle sightings makes the day’s diving extra special.
Barra
Diving the manta coast of Mozambique is an experience not to be forgotten. There are unspoilt reefs, dolphins, resident manta rays and resident whale sharks pretty much all year round with the added bonus of humpback whales during the months of June to October. Nuaro
The proximity to the continental shelf allows for extraordinary shore dives and boat dives within Memba Bay. Along the stunning Baixo do Pinda walls are the more challenging dives which are reached by boat. The bottom topography in the Nanatha Bay is very dramatic with sections of vertical drop-offs, swim throughs, shallow caves and colorful pinnacles. For a diver looking for a more mellow experience the shallow areas of Nuarro home-reef are also full of life.
Quirimba Archipelago
Quirimba Archipelago offers some of the finest diving in the world with untouched coral reefs and an astounding diversity of marine species. A dazzling array of fish, from moray eels and stingrays to barracuda, kingfish and other pelagic gamefish can be seen whilst diving here in tropical waters that seldom drop below 26 degrees centigrade. Bazaruto Archipelago
The protected Bazaruto Marine National Park is a scuba diver’s paradise, with crystal-clear waters and a range of dazzling soft coral ridges and reefs to explore. There are thousands of subtropical fishes, numerous coral reefs, anemones, seahorses and a dazzling variety of marine creatures. One of the main attractions is the Dugong or sea cow, which is highly endangered and of which only a very small number still exist. Above the water dolphins are frequently encountered whilst humpback whales can be sighted between August and October and whale sharks between April and July. Leatherback, loggerhead and green turtles are often seen in the water, coming ashore to lay their eggs on Bazaruto’s sandy beaches.
